Cable operators are facing growing competition from incumbent
local exchange carriers (ILECs) for residential services. To expand
their market opportunity and lessen their exposure on the residential
front, cable operators are developing service offerings targeted
at small businesses.
BroadSoft is working with cable operators to enable these providers
to take advantage of their broadband access networks to expand into
voice services. The BroadWorks application platform is PacketCable
Multimedia 2.0 compliant for cable operators that have chosen
to utilize SIP for their VoIP deployments. Initial deployments of
the BroadWorks application platform for small business voice offerings
center around BroadSoft Business
Trunking solution and fully Hosted
PBX services, depending on business customers' requirements.
While a number of large cable MSOs are deploying IP-based voice
services, they currently replicate a traditional circuit-switched
service offering. Cable operators that have deployed BroadWorks
for small business services can leverage the platform to offer highly
differentiated
residential feature capabilities and multimedia services
such as point-to-point video calling through the BroadWorks Communicator
.
