Incumbent service providers are under increasing pressure from eroding bases of local circuit-switched voice lines and growing competition from IP PBX manufacturers. BroadSoft is working with incumbent service providers by providing a single, complete IP application platform, BroadWorks, to enable them to deploy IP voice and multimedia services across all market segments.

Initial deployments of IP voice services by BroadSoft's incumbent service providers include IP Centrex for existing Centrex customer migration and Hosted PBX services for large enterprises to compete against IP PBX vendors. The focus on large enterprise services is providing incumbents with a base to expand its IP service offerings.

The next significant opportunity is on the residential front, where incumbents are faced with competitive threats from mobile wireless substitution, cable operators, and a new class of virtual network operators. Incumbents are leveraging the BroadWorks platform to enhance residential voice services, expand the usage of broadband access services, and market services to new customers out of region.

Taking advantage of their mobile wireless assets for competitive differentiation, incumbents are looking to tie wireline and wireless service capabilities together in a seamless fashion. With the BroadWorks platform installed, incumbent service providers can enable BroadSoft's Mobile PBX application to extend the feature capabilities of the BroadWorks platform across the wireline and wireless networks.
