BROADSOFT AND CARRIER ACCESS FORM ALLIANCE AND COMPLETE INTEROP TESTS

Live demo at SUPERCOMM to demonstrate seamless interoperability

ATLANTA, GA (June 3, 2002) - BroadSoft®, Inc. (Booth #11217), the leader in voice applications and servers, and Carrier Access Corporation (NASDAQ: CACS, Booth #11759), a manufacturer of broadband access equipment, today announced an alliance that can deliver enhanced voice over IP (VoIP) services and applications with unprecedented ease and scalability. The joint solution leverages existing service provider infrastructure and enables a smooth migration path to IP Centrex that will lead to additional service revenue.

Under the teaming agreement, BroadSoft and Carrier Access have combined BroadSoft's BroadWorks IP voice services platform with Carrier Access' Adit 600 Customer Media Gateway (CMG) platform to deliver VoIP enhanced services at the customer premises. This solution converges traditional circuit-switched services with new IP Centrex network and enterprise voice services. The joint solution is available for shipment now and will be demonstrated at the Carrier Access SUPERCOMM 2002 booth during the show, June 4-6, 2002 in Atlanta, GA.

"The modularity and scalable design of the Adit 600 CMG enables our customers to deploy the BroadWorks platform with carrier-class scalability, maintenance, reliability, and integral power back-up. Carrier Access has delivered a fully interoperable and feature-compliant IP access gateway, which is built on the widely deployed Adit 600 platform. The low-cost and proven carrier quality of the Adit 600 CMG enables wide-scale deployment of BroadWorks for IP business service delivery," said Michael Tessler, BroadSoft's president and CEO.

The Adit 600 CMG converts analog voice signals into IP packets, enabling VoIP service utilizing softswitch service control. BroadSoft's BroadWorks services software provides network control, administration, billing, user calling features, and screen-based client desktop phone applications. The combined solution enables a complete enterprise service offering over converged T1 or E1 access lines. Because of its modular design, the Adit 600 CMG solution scales from a small office of eight to enterprises with thousands of users. Each Adit 600 CMG - carrier-class quality in a form factor about the size of a shoebox - provides up to eight T1s or 40 FXS user telephone connections, or various combinations of the two options.

"BroadSoft's leadership position in IP Centrex and telephony voice applications, combined with the Adit 600 CMG enterprise service delivery solution, bring IP telephony to mainstream deployments," said Roger Koenig, CEO of Carrier Access. "The joint solution offers the costs and quality needed to deliver new profits from enterprise IP revenue to our service provider customers."

Carrier Access has implemented capabilities to use low-cost Centrex LCD feature phones, in addition to the support of SIP-based PC phones and Ethernet SIP phones. Customers can select telephone options that meet the cost and feature needs of each user. The total BroadSoft and Carrier Access solution delivers IP Centrex and enterprise VoIP services at costs that are significantly lower than traditional TDM deployments.

For Carrier Access' large existing base of service provider customers, the Adit 600s deployed in active networks today may be upgraded to CMG with the simple addition of the CMG service card in any of six universal service card chassis slots. The capability to migrate existing networks to IP services with a card addition, rather than a complete chassis replacement, is important to capital preservation. The slots may be equipped with multiple CMG and Quad T1/E1 cards, allowing scaling far beyond the typical entries in the product category.
