BroadWorks VoIP Application Platform Delivers on
the IMS Network Promise
BARCELONA, Spain - February 14, 2006 - BroadSoft, Inc.,
the leading provider of VoIP application software, today announced
that Telefónica de España has deployed VoIP services
based on the BroadWorks VoIP application platform. The service,
deployed over the Ericsson IMS system, is one of the first IMS deployments
delivering VoIP services to the residential and SME markets.
Telefonica is using value-adding BroadWorks applications based
on an IMS-ready platform to deliver primary line services to residential
consumers and SMEs over any broadband connection. Using the BroadWorks
platform, Telefónica customers are able to manage their own
service preferences via the Web. Premium applications such as simultaneous
ring, where any call to the home number will automatically ring
any other number specified by the user, can be managed directly
by the customer, empowering end users to make their own service
changes such as setting up voicemail preferences and call forwarding.
"If there is a ranking of topical issues in the industry at
the moment, then IMS and VoIP must be near the top of the list,"
said Rogier Mol, Senior Analyst European VoIP Infrastructure at
IDC. "The promise of IMS to unlock the network to a new breed
of applications will first be realised through applications which
the user already understands - voice. When you get an operator of
the size and scale of Telefónica offering residential VoIP
services, then you know that the industry is moving out of hype
and into reality. As a side note it should be said that these services
are important as an IMS proof-point that will help to drive the
number of IMS deployments at other operators."
The Telefónica de España deployment is one of the
world's first IMS deployments. BroadWorks applications function
independent of the underlying IMS network, simplifying operations
and enabling third-party applications, such as presence, to be more
easily integrated. BroadSoft's IMS-compliant BroadWorks provides
a comprehensive range of VoIP applications, including hosted PBX,
IP Centrex, mobile PBX, business trunking and residential broadband
services fully integrated into a single hosted communications platform.
"Telefónica is respected in the industry, and when
it deploys IMS and residential VoIP services, the industry takes
notice," said Michael Tessler, CEO and President of BroadSoft.
"Working closely with Ericsson, we have enabled Telefónica
to realise the value of its IMS infrastructure by deploying applications
which are already in demand from end-users. Not only that, but by
using BroadWorks, Telefónica is able to give customers control
of their own service preferences."
